Updated: Child’s Play Anniversary DVD!

New Child's Play DVD Coming**Scroll to the bottom for the update!**

Great news out there for all you fans of tiny dolls that have been running amok due in part to demonic infestations!

Word broke today at the New Jersey Fangoria Weekend of Horrors that the original Child’s Play is about to get the special edition DVD treatment. There’s no word on what kind of special features will be included, just that Brad Dourif will be heavily involved.

Now I love the Chucky flicks, but I never got what everyone was so damed scared of. He was like two feet tall and made out of plastic for Christ’s sake! Run away? Fuck no! Me? I would have trapped him and just kept him in a cage. Maybe sold him to a circus. Hey man, with gas prices the way that they are, we need to find a new means in which to make bank in a free market economy.

*UPDATE!* Thanks to one of our readers pointing it out, we found a story from DVD Town that lists the special features. Check ’em out;

  • Audio Commentary with TBD
  • Selected Scene Chucky Commentary
  • “Evil Comes in Small Packages”:
    *The Birth of Chucky
    *Creating the Horror
    *Unleashed Chucky: Building a Nightmare
    *A Monster Convention

  • Vintage Featurette: “Introducing Chucky: The Making of Child’s Play
  • It’s Hard Being Evil
  • Theatrical Trailer (texted)
  • Photo Gallery
  • Looks very cool! We’ll have more for you as soon as it’s finalized!

i read about this a few weeks back on dvdtown.com…they listed features too…i remember some featurettes, a commentary, and a selected scene “chucky commentary”…i think. maybe it was just rumoured stuff, if the official press release hasnt listed features yet…i kinda hope it was…a chucky commentary is so painfully lame it hurts to think about it.

      Fox owns MGM now

    • Blockbuster

Creepy…I’m with you…I’ve NEVER found Chucky to be the least bit scary. Never. However, the scariest movie ever:

      ARACHNOPHOBIA.

      Oh yes.

For those that are curious, MGM still owns the rights to the first film but their current DVD distribution deal is with 20th Century Fox (i.e. 20th Century Fox releases all of their films on DVD). It strikes me as a bit odd, since MGM is owned by Sony (why not just allow Sony to release their films on DVD?), but whatever.
