BD Wong Colin Trevorrow Reveals Jurassic World Plot Details; Familiar Face Returning! We still don’t yet know much about Jurassic World, the long-awaited next installment in the mega-popular Jurassic Park franchise. While plot details have been shrouded in secrecy, the writer/director of the film just spilled some pretty exciting beans. Read on!

In an interview with IGN, Colin Trevorrow made the announcement that an actor from the original film will be reprising his role in the sequel, but he’ll be the only character to cross over into the latest installment.

I know a lot of fans want to see the original characters back,” said the director. “They’re iconic. But I respect those actors too much to shoehorn them into this story for my own sentimental reasons. Jurassic Park isn’t about the bad luck of three people who keep getting thrown into the same situation. The only reason they’d go back to that island is if the screenwriters contrived a reason for them to go.

But there is a character from the first film who makes sense in our world,” he continued. “This hasn’t been announced yet, but BD Wong will be returning as Dr. Henry Wu. He had a much larger role in the original novel; he was the engineer of this breakthrough in de-extinction. He spent two decades living in Hammond’s shadow, underappreciated. We think there’s more to his story.

Trevorrow also opened up a bit about the new characters being brought into the franchise, about whom we haven’t yet heard anything. He described Chris Pratt’s main character as “a classic hero in a very modern context” and went on to compare him to other characters from the series.

He’s the guy who will get you through the jungle alive – but like Malcolm, Grant, and Sattler, he’s an expert in a scientific field that’s connected to our story,” Trevorrow revealed. “The character allows us to explore some new ideas about our relationship with these animals without losing the humor and sense of adventure. He’s a great contrast for Bryce Dallas Howard’s character, who starts off very corporate, very controlled. Until the running and screaming starts. Then they need each other.

As for the overall vibe of the film itself, Trevorrow says it will be quite different, while still evoking the spirit of the original installments. “This film will have a lot of new ideas in it,” he says, “but I think the spirit will be familiar. It will have an old soul.”

Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins, and Nick Robinson star. Colin Trevorrow (Safety Not Guaranteed) penned the script with Derek Connolly and directs. Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall, and Pat Crowley produce Jurassic World, which is set to hit theaters June 12, 2015.

We’ll have more as it comes.
