Downey Playing Cowboys & Aliens?

Cowboys & Aliens finally getting made? With Iron Man raking in money hand over fist, still, I’m sure one of the big questions in Hollywood is something we’ve not heard in a long time; what is Robert Downey, Jr. doing next? Other than the inevitable sequel(s), it looks like it might be the long-gestating adaptation of Cowboys & Aliens.

THR reports this morning that Downey is in negotiations to star in the film, about a feud between two rival groups of cowboys that is rudely interrupted when an alien spacecraft crashes to Earth. The two groups are forced to put their differences aside to fight back the overly aggressive extraterrestrials.

Based on the graphic novel of the same name by Fred Van Lente & Andrew Foley, Cowboys & Aliens has been touched by almost everyone in Hollywood during it’s decade-long trip to the big screen. The most recent draft, penned by Iron Man & Children of Men writers Hawk Ostby & Mark Fergus, may just be the one they’ve been waiting for this whole time to finally get the film greenlit. I’m sure having Downey attached won’t hurt, either.

Since we just know there’s gotta be some horror elements in there worth paying attention to, keep it on Dread for updates as we get ‘em!
