First Look at Fantasia 2008 Lineup!

Repo to premiere at Fantasia 2008!Someday, when I’m finally as rich as I deserve to be, I won’t have to make these decisions about what to focus my energy on during the month of July. This year it was a toss up between San Diego Comic Con and Fantasia and, sadly, it looks like Comic Con’s winning.

But just because I won’t be there doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go; if you’ve never been you need to make it a point to do it a least once; it’s like nothing else out there. By way of proof, Fangoria just released a massive list of films that will be playing this years’ Fantasia, running July 3 – 21 in beautiful Montreal, Quebec, and it just breaks my heart. Check out some of the highlights;

  • Midnight Meat Train
  • Repo! The Genetic Opera
  • Stuck
  • Bad Biology
  • Red
  • The Echo
  • Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer
  • Dance of the Dead
  • The Objective
  • Pig Hunt
  • L: Change the World
  • Timecrimes
  • And that’s just a very, very small list of what will be taking up the three theaters Fantasia has to work with for three long, glorious weeks. Visit Fantasia’s official site for all the info you could need, and rest assured; our annual tradition of daily coverage will continue this year, even if I can’t be a part of it all!

The one film I’m most looking forward to is LET THE RIGHT ONE IN. I just read the book and it’s wonderful.

It kills me not to be able to go. But when it was time to select vacation at work, someone else (higher ranking then me) had taken July 3rd to 25th so I could not leave during that period. So we picked to go to Montreal from the 25th of June until the 1st of July. Now the other girl has cancelled a vacation, but our planes tickets are already bought for this month, so no FantAsia for me this year… I think I am going to go in a corner and cry now…

Chainsaw, if the prices have not risen too much at the moment, you can get a roundtrip bus ticket from Albany to Montreal for about $120. Check it with Greyhound. Once there, you do not need a car and can probably find cheap lodging. If you go only for a weekend, you can possible catch quite a few movies.

If anyone’s going, please get me a program so that I can track down as many of the movies as I can.

I think that divide in exchange between Canadian and American currency has pretty much been erased. And right now for me, a few Hundred is “enormously expensive”.

      • Morgan Elektra

Yup, $100 is about $102 Canadian right now.

Also keep in mind that they make it a habit of flying in those who made the films, so there’s a good chance Clive or Ruyhei will be there for train… I’m almost positive Bousman’s going to be on hand.

And really, from NYC it’s not “enormously” expensive, just a tank or two of gas… we do it from Boston every year.

      Except this one, of course…

Man, you just named four of the movies I would kill to see! Midnight Meat Train is personally my most anticipated movie this year. I’ve been extremely interested in Stuck and can’t wait to see Red. Repo looks amazing as well. If only I could go. :(

What are you talking about? Canadian exchange works in your favor!

    • Chainsaw

Damn, i would really like to go up there and see Repo! But I know it’d be an enormously expensive trip, even from NY.
