Dead End for Bad Meat

Wrong Turn director Rob Schmidt with Wrong Turn 2 director Joe Lynch!A few weeks back production on Rob (Wrong Turn) Schmidt’s latest film, Bad Meat, was halted due to lack of funds. At the time the filmmakers were assured that the money would be in place shortly and told not to worry.

Today, however, Nikki over at Deadline Hollywood Daily has some bad news to report: There is no money. Capitol Films was financing the project, but according to her sources the bottom has officially fallen out.

“It’s done, over, kaput,” an insider told her. “A sorry day for a lot of actors, producers, the writer/director, wardrobe, hair, makeup, hotels, craft services, drivers, etc. — hundreds of people who weren’t fully paid. Only a couple of actors had all their money put in escrow and are therefore whole.”

About 2/3 of the script had been shot when the money dried up, which means hopefully Schmidt and crew will be able to find someone to bankroll the rest and get the project done. We’ll keep our ears open for more news!

Man, I thought the Alphabet Killer was done a long time ago, too.

I’m guessing that the production wasn’t bonded for completion?

That’s a bummer to hear though, especially when so much time is invested.

To be fair, Rob’s next picture is The Alphabet Killer, with Eliza Dushku… though God only knows where that one is…

With that much already shot, I’m guessing (and hoping) someone will step up and get it finished. I was looking forward to his next movie, and still am.

Oh man, that sucks major donkey balls. I was REALLY looking forward to Rob’s next picture. I’m one of those that thought WRONG TURN was one helluva fun ride.
If I were a rich man I’d fund the rest of the picture myself. Shitty.

  • Permafrost

Well that’s shitty for everyone involved. Rob- I hope something works out for you and the rest of the crew.
