The Drownsman Begins Filming in CanadaThe filmmakers behind the flick Antisocial are at it again up in the Great White North as shooting has commenced on their latest project, The Drownsman, and we have your details right here.

Michelle Mylett, Gemma Bird Matheson, Caroline Korycki, Sydney Kondruss, Clare Bastable, and Ryan Barrett star.

From the Press Release
The Drownsman (working title) began shooting in Guelph, Ontario, under the direction of Chad Archibald. Written by Archibald and Cody Calahan (Antisocial), The Drownsman (working title) is the second in a trilogy of horror movies created and produced by Black Fawn Films, executive produced by Breakthrough Entertainment, who also have world distribution rights.

Location shoots are in Guelph, with the majority happening at Mount Forest and Pike Lake Resort. Shooting will go for 17 days, and the running time is 88 minutes. The film will be ready February 2014, in time for EFM.

“We’re creating a film that defies physics, and we’re shooting 95% of it without CGI so we’ve had to create some innovative sets to pull off these unique water effects,” says Chad Archibald. “The story and pace of this film is totally different than previous ones; it showcases an element we often don’t think of as something to fear – water. When our lead, Madison, has an accident in the water, her hydrophobia escalates, [and] the story begins to take some twists and some terrifying turns. Cody Calahan and I have created a new type of horror story, while still paying homage to the classic genre films we know and love.”

“We are very excited to be working again with Black Fawn,” says Breakthrough executive producer Peter Williamson. “The creative and commercial success of Antisocial shows us that ‘generation next’ audiences want ever more intriguing genre experiences.”

Synopsis
After almost drowning in a lake, Madison finds herself bound to a life of fear. Unable to describe what happened to her during the moments she was underwater, she begins to develop hydrophobia: an abnormal fear of water. Crippled by her post trauma, Madison attempts to shut out the world, but her fear intensifies and she is faced with the vision of a dark figure that haunts her day and night.

After watching her struggle for one year with the phobia and visions, Madison’s four friends attempt an unconventional intervention in which they accidentally open a floodgate to a dark place where none of them are safe. As Madison and her friends dive deeper into the dark history of this figure that haunts them, it reaches out and begins dragging them to a horrifying place that they can never come back from.

In the vein of classic supernatural villains like Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, and Candyman, this film creates a new iconic villain that will make audiences fear running their bath water.
