Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins rolls!Well, it’s actually happening. Someone’s making a new Terminator movie. I know, some may question why we’d be covering it here on Dread, but even though it’s about as sci-fi as you can get, we all have a soft spot for killer robots.

Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins is now officially filming in Albuquerque, New Mexico, according to a press release sent out by Warner Bros. today. As you may recall, Christian Bale stars in the sequel as the infamous John Connor, son of Sarah and leader of the human uprising against Skynet. How’s about some official plot to go with your morning coffee?

In the highly anticipated new installment of The Terminator film franchise, set in post-apocalyptic 2018, Christian Bale stars as John Connor, the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators. But the future Connor was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet’s operations, where they uncover the terrible secret behind the possible annihilation of mankind.

This is only the first of a planned trilogy of new Terminator films with Bale as Connor, which just makes me happy on a geek level most can’t understand. But you guys do, right? Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins is directed by McG and will be in theaters on May 22nd, 2009. Visit the official Terminator Salvation site (coming soon) to keep up on the film’s progress!
