Exclusive: Ted Venemann Talks The Killer Klown Karnival
I frigging fear clowns. So when horror personality Ted Venemann passed along news that he's producing an entire event based on the creepy bastards, I e-mailed him back a big box of 'no.'
But since I'm a professional, here's the information anyway on an event that'll certainly drive anyone coulrophobic into tears.
Taking place Saturday, October 12, 2013, from 8pm to midnight at The Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport Hotel and Convention Center (2500 North Hollywood Way, Burbank, California), Oculus Outré and The Chiodo Bros. have teamed to present The Killer Klown Karnival. Hosted by Son of Monsterpalooza (the horror convention takes place that weekend in the very same hotel), the event is a celebration of the 25th Anniversary of The Chiodo Bros.' cult classic feature Killer Klowns from Outer Space and will feature live performances by seminal punk rock legends The Dickies (who will showcase songs from their 'Killer Klowns from Outer Space' EP along with hits spanning their 36-year career) and the theatrical horror rock band Rosemary's Billygoat. Also performing will be the burlesque troop Peepshow Menagerie with their interpretation of The Kreepy Kabaret, plus DJ Howie Pyro and apparently even more absolutely terrifying surprises (that I don't want to be anywhere near) to be announced.
"The Killer Klown Karnival is going to be a blast!" effused Venemann, as if he were purposefully mocking my phobia.
"It's been great working with The Chiodos on this event and giving Killer Klowns from Outer Space the party it deserves. If you're a Killer Klowns fan, you won't want to miss this show!"
But wait, there's more! In addition to the aforementioned stage performances, The Killer Klown Karnival will host 'The Killer Klown Kontest,' where attendees are encouraged to dress up as the most terrifying Klown character they can conceive of and compete before The Chiodo Bros., who will determine the winner! Lastly, in attendance will be Killer Klowns from Outer Space cast members Grant Kramer, Susan Snyder, Mark Martinez and Harrod Blank as well as vendors, ultra rare behind-the-scenes footage from the filming of Killer Klowns from Outer Space and photo opportunities.
Unsurprisingly, this event isn't recommended for children, or me for that matter.
Have fun, Ted. As for me, I may take off and nuke Burbank from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
