TIFF 2013 Exclusive: Kristina Klebe Talks IFC Midnight's North American Rights Acquisition of Proxy
Having premiered this week in the Vanguard section of the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival, director Zack Parker's horror feature Proxy has secured North American distribution via IFC Midnight, and we caught up with film co-star Kristina Klebe to discuss it. Read on!
According to Deadline Hollywood, the co-written by and produced by director Parker and Kevin Donner film Proxy, which stars Alexia Rasmussen, Alexa Havins, Kristina Klebe (Rob Zombie's Halloween) and Joe Swanberg, is slated for a theatrical and VOD release via IFC Midnight (date to be determined). The film will next screen at Fantastic Fest 2013. The deal was negotiated by Airanna Bocco, Senior Vice President of Acquisitions & Productions for Sundance Selects/IFC Films, and Nate Bolotin of XYZ Films, representing the filmmakers.
Speaking exclusively this morning from Canada with Dread Central, Proxy co-star Klebe stated of the TIFF screening and IFC acquisition of Proxy, "Having a film in which my name appears in the opening credits at Toronto, in my opinion the best festival in the world for independent yet commercially viable film, was already a huge honor. But having our film get picked up by such a prestigious company as IFC after just our first screening is an even bigger honor."
"This will be the first film since Halloween in which I play one of the leads in a theatrical release in America," Klebe continued. "I've been working long and hard, and I owe so much to Zack Parker for hand-picking me to play this part and believing I could pull it off. It's quite an intense one. I also think, in a way, I never doubted this would happen. From the beginning, every single person involved in this project came together in the spirit of hard work, creative generosity and pulling together on a very low budget; and Zack is simply so talented. As a filmmaker and director, I am inspired by his methodology and hope to learn much more from him. As an actor, I simply want to be in every single one of his films."
Below is a synopsis for Proxy as well as its trailer.
A very pregnant Esther Woodhouse (Rasmussen) is walking home after her latest OB appointment when she is brutally attacked and disfigured by a hooded assailant. When Esther seeks consolation in a support group, she finds friendship and empathy in Melanie (Havins), another mother scarred with tragedy. Esther soon begins to believe that the horrific event might be a bittersweet act of fate. However, friendship and empathy can be very dangerous things when accepted by the wrong people.
Proxy is a European-style suspense-thriller that promises to challenge the traditional cinematic form. Parker has reunited with The Newton Brothers to compose the score as well as Jim Timperman as Director of Photography to lens the film. A notable addition to Parker’s crew is seasoned Special F/X Make-Up Artist James Ojala. Proxy was shot on location in Eastern Indiana last summer and began its festival run this fall.
