In honor of next week’s release of Alien: Isolation, we’ll be running features and giveaways that take looks at the upcoming visceral experience from Sega as well as gaming itself. Read on for Alien Week Day One: The Movies That Are Inspiring The Games We Play – Alien, Fantasia, Mad Max!

This fall and over the next few months, some of the most highly anticipated games hitting consoles were inspired by great movie franchises from Ridley Scott’s 1979 cult classic Alien to Walt Disney’s passion project Fantasia to the 1979 action-packed Aussie flick Mad Max.  Each renowned in their own right, these films have served as the foundation for the three corresponding games that will be hitting retail shelves this year into next.

On October 7th, the much awaited launch of survival horror game Alien: Isolation puts players in the shoes of Amanda Ripley (daughter of Ellen Ripley) as she is faced with the terrifying Xenomorph and must fight to stay alive.  Returning to the roots of Ridley Scott’s masterpiece, Alien: Isolation embodies the lo-fi sci-fi feel of the 70’s classic.

Changing the tune a little (no pun intended) is the release of the music motion experience Disney Fantasia: Music Evolved. Just as Walt’s vision was ahead of its time back in 1940, so is Fantasia: Music Evolved, a Kinect game truly immersing the player into the magical worlds of music and movement, inspired and pulled from the Disney archives.

Lastly is the 2015 release of the game Mad Max, inspired by the 1979 film of the same name.  The franchise went on to release Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior in 1981 and Mad Max 3: Beyond Thunderdome in 1985, and now with the May 15, 2015, premiere of Mad Max: Fury Road, the film starring Tom Hardy, the game is sure to be a hot item upon its release.

Mark your calendars to keep these games on your radar, and make sure to revisit the movies. See you online!
