Fantasia 2013: Cheap Thrills Awarded New Flesh Award At Fantasia Film Festival

Fantasia 2013: Cheap Thrills Awarded New Flesh Award At Fantasia Film FestivalThe Fantasia Film Festival has been going on in Montreal since July 18th, an annual celebration of genre cinema that serves as the world premiere for many films that are sure to soon become fan favorites.

Each year the festival hand selects one outstanding film, directed by a first-time filmmaker, to receive the prestigious New Flesh Award, and we just got the scoop out of Montreal that this year's New Flesh winner is Cheap Thrills, which the Fantasia jury has called "darkly humorous, smart and bloody in ways that will make many viewers squirm with glee." They went on to say that "this abundantly confident first feature provides a thoroughly entertaining snapshot of modern blue collar desperation in a world addicted to easy money and childish amusement."

Fantasia's 2013 New Flesh Jury was comprised of filmmaker and Jury President Charles de Lauzirika, musician Ramachandra Borcar, Voir film critic Manon Dumais, filmmaker Jason Lapeyre, and Les cahiers du cinema film critic St├ęphane du Mesnildot.

Congratulations to director E.L. Katz and all involved with Cheap Thrills. We can't wait to check it out for ourselves!
