Sarah Connor Chronicles Will Be Back!

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (click to see it bigger)Granted, it’s not solely a horror show, but the Fox Network’s “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” has plenty of fans on this site (including yours truly). So it was with much joy that I read in today’s Hollywood Reporter that yes, Sarah, John, and Cameron will be back!

The network has renewed “The Sarah Connor Chronicles” for a second season and ordered 13 additional episodes. The show stars Lena Headey as Sarah, Thomas Dekker as her son and future leader against the machines, and Summer Glau as the latest incarnation of the Terminator.

Considering that the show, which is produced by Warner Bros. TV and premiered last January, was “the highest-rated new scripted series this season among adults 18-49 with an average of 4.4 rating/10 share and drew an average of 10.5 million total viewers,” I doubt the renewal is much of a surprise to anyone. But since it’s also one of the best installments in the Terminator mythos and ended with a doozy of a cliffhanger, this is welcome news indeed!

I'll see you on the other side...

  • Blockbuster

I just wanted to jump in here and put in my two cents. That’s all.

  • Messiahman

Funny, I thought the original TERMINATOR was just a dressed-up ripoff of two episodes of THE OUTER LIMITS written by Harlan Ellison.

Harlan Ellison thought so, too. As did James Cameron.

Which is why Ellison now gets a credit on all copies of the film.

Ellison, by the way, was a science fiction writer.

  • Terminal

Okay, then when can we see a review of “Rambo”?

A man in the woods hunting down people with assorted weapons while not completely sane and mutilating them in the process. It has a definite dread to it.

But then let’s not play a game of semantics.

  • Sirand

An unstoppable killing machine targets a young woman and systematically massacres everyone who gets in its path. How is that not a slasher movie? Because its a robot with a gun instead of a zombie with a knife?

I guess you’re gonna tell me Alien isn’t a horror movie either.

  • Terminal

Well, Lena Headey is a MILF. And there is a bit of an oedipus thing going there, so you’re not incorrect.

  • Kryten Syxx

No, WIB. I meant what I said. The tension between mother and son never feels parental. It feels disturbing.

  • Terminal

And also Summer Glau better be coming back. If I tune in to see Alicia Witt, someone’s going to get a size eleven foot up their butt hole.

  • Terminal

Hah! And yet, it was STILL science fiction! Ze splitting of ze hairs still leads to ze fact that Terminator was and is Science Fiction. Again, by your logic, Rambo was a dressed up slasher movie.

But then again, let’s not get tangled in semantics.

  • Sirand

The original Terminator was a dressed-up slasher film, pure and simple.

  • Terminal

By that definition, war movies are horror movies because war is dread inducing. Just saying.

  • Terminal

Nah, it’s firmly Science Fiction, WIB.

  • Terminal

    Johnny, you’re incorrigible.

    “Yeah … I really don’t get why it’s here…”

    That’s what she said.

  • The Woman In Black

Sarah and John finally going to make out in season 2?

I really hope you meant Cameron and John. If not, YUCK!

And I’d say it certainly has genre themes. The idea of a world run by machines should qualify as “dread inducing,” one of the widely accepted criteria for a horror label.

  • Sirand

    Terminator has cross-over appeal.

  • Johnny Butane

    Yeah … I really don’t get why it’s here…

  • Terminal

    Good, can’t wait.

And it’s NOT a horror show.

  • Kryten Syxx

Sarah and John finally going to make out in season 2?

  • Sirand

Yay! Love the series. It’s the real T3.
