Quarantine Trailer Live!

Many of us have been wondering how Quarantine, the U.S. remake of “>REC (review), is going to compare to its original. We know a few things have changed in regard to the “infection“, but what about how the movie is shot? Well, thanks to DC reader Germboy, we have some answers.

The trailer for Quarantine has appeared on YouTube, and one or two key scenes look to be shot-by-shot copies from the original film. The flick appears to have a much crisper look to it as well. But beware of the SPOILERS that are held in the trailer below.

Considering that those of us who are pointing out instances of “why did they show THAT in the trailer?” it’s because we are going on the fact that all info available seems to dictate that this is almost a shot for shot remake.

Sure we could be wrong. But we might be right on the money also. Speculation can go both ways.

And I personally stated that the girl does die because if we are going on the idea that this the shot for shot remake – which most of us in these comments are speculating – then I stand by my statement. In the original that was the ending of the movie, if all goes hand in hand with the remake then they just showed us the fate of a major character in the trailer.

Personally, I don’t care, but from a marketing standpoint it is a double edged sword…

One one side, you have a really nifty sucker punch to tantalize the new folk watching the movie (some of which have no idea that it is a remake), a what-will-happen-to-our-hero-now factor.

But the other side of the sharp blade is that you are showing all your tricks to a good chunk of an audience that may have seen the original.
Shit, after all the studio saw how well it did overseas and how well word of mouth is on US shores it had to know that a good portion of the audience would know what the scene is in relation to the rest of the movie.

But ultimately, it’s the everyday folk that the studios are attempting to grab. As we all know, it’s the everyman that seems to make or break the box office for horror movies.

“And for anyone saying that doesn’t actually show her death – yes it does, watch the original and they told you in the beginning of the trailer that everyone in the apartment building was never heard from again.”

I still believe she could still survive after being dragged away, just because it’s the originals ending does not mean it’s the same with the remake. Just because there are shot for shot scenes doesn’t mean EVERY scene is.

Trailers lie all the time, just because it said there were no survivors doesn’t mean anything. Jennifer Carpenter’s character will either
    A: Be dead
B: Infected and attacks the group
or C: Actually survives and warns the group

“Also, did anyone notice that while the events of the climax of the movie take place in the attic, or top floor locked room, but the soldiers seem to have found the camera on a bottom floor?”

Again, we still do not know if she could very well take the camera downstairs after being dragged away.

She most likely will die, but I don’t think at that exact moment. Even though I know Hollywood always spoils things, we can’t just assume that is the ending until we witness it ourselves.

“Even if this ends up being mediocre, you have to give it to Carpenter. The bitch can scream with the best of them.”

I was on set with her and she worked herself up into hysterics like nobody I’ve ever seen.

  • Enraged_Otter

everyone in Hollywood currently making remakes should be raped by yetis. Thats my only response to this trailer

  • Blockbuster

OH! And did anyone else notice that Jennifer Carpenter is wearing the exact same outfit as Angela in the original? I love that girl.

  • Blockbuster

It looks like also that they were going for the same “these are the moments of the police force” going into it like from the TCM remake…I bet that the twist ending (YOU GOTTA HAVE A TWIST ENDING!!!!!) is going to be that the police force doesn’t make it out either…ala TCM remake.

See, I don’t even work for the Hollywood machine and I nailed it that it was a government thing.

I notice that they gave the old woman in the beginning, and presumably every other possessed…oops, I mean “infected” person, fangs. I guess thats for the benefit of us stupid American audiences: See, they’re monsters! They have fangs!

Not only did they show the twist at the end but they showed the death of our intrepid reporter.

And for anyone saying that doesn’t actually show her death – yes it does, watch the original and they told you in the beginning of the trailer that everyone in the apartment building was never heard from again.

This looks more polished and cleaned up, but it looks somewhat more “fake” than the original did…

[REC]’s shots were chaotic but flowed naturally due to the sityation unfolding. This movie’s shots looked ultra staged (ooh, someone walked in front of the camera, I have to get that shot!) which is odd since they seem to be doing the shot for shot remake.

Also, did anyone notice that while the events of the climax of the movie take place in the attic, or top floor locked room, but the soldiers seem to have found the camera on a bottom floor?

I’ll still see this. I’ll see it and probably enjoy it, but some of the thrill will be gone.

I was going into this with the attitude of “OK, I’ve seen the original, so what will this one do to suprise me?”

Apparently nothing, because they showed exactly what they are going to do in the trailer.

Also, the zombie makeup looks a bit more… obvious than in the original.

  • PelusaMG

Blair Witch ended by showing Mike standing in the corner and the camera falling down… !!!???

  • Sirand

This one is mostly a shot for shot remake (which I never thought possible with cinema-verite). They most definately showed the final shot in the trailer.

Imagine if the Blair Witch trailer ended by showing Mike standing in the corner and the camera falling down.

    Ugh.

  • Uncle Creepy

Good point Caine but if you’ve seen the original (which is stellar) the odds of the scene in question not being the final one are pretty slim.

  • Terminal

They’re using the last shot of the ORIGINAL. It’s lazy and confirms that Angela is dead.

  • Caine Is Able

Ummm I’m sorry, but how do you all even know that is the last shot of the movie, it’s a remake!!!, it could very well continue after that scene.

  • Terminal

Damn, I was drunk or something when I commented. Corrected:

I hate to be one of THOSE people who just bash something for being a remake, but man, what an embarrassing trailer. The final shot of the original film being featured at the beginning, any and all question about the reporter surviving is gone, TDA was dead on about a government conspiracy of some kind, and that whole hand held footage format is poorly done. I’m not holding out hope, I’m really not.

    Hopefully I’ll be proven wrong.

  • What The Cat Dragged In

I’m glad I read the comments before viewing the trailer. You guys just saved me a surprise when I finally get to see [rec].

I hate the beginning of the trailer. The damn thing doesn’t even go for an authentic “found footage” feel. Then there are huge spoilers all over it…

I’ll stick with REC, thank you.

  • Uncle Creepy

    Wow. Just wow. *shakes head*

  • Sirand

Now there’s a good idea: Show the final shot in the trailer! Brilliant!
