Remake of The Monster Squad Falls Completely Off the Platinum Dunes Radar

Plans to remake the 1987 classic The Monster Squad have been in motion for many years, much to the chagrin of the original film’s writer/director Fred Dekker. Now it seems the remake is officially dead in the water, and Dekker is quite pleased about that. Read on!
In an interview with Collider, Platinum Dunes producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller revealed the death of the project, Form saying that they’re no longer developing the film. “That’s dead,” Fuller emphatically added, sealing the fate of this particular remake. For now, that is.
On his Facebook fan page, Fred Dekker remarked that “‘Dead’ is usually not a good thing” but offered up a big ole “HURRAY!” in response to the interview.
Can’t say we disagree with you on this one, Fred. There are just some movies that can’t be remade, and we’re feeling like The Monster Squad is one of them!
Rob Cohen was at one point set to direct the remake of The Monster Squad, which begins when Count Dracula adjourns to Earth, accompanied by Frankenstein’s Monster, the Wolf Man, the Mummy, and the Gillman. The uglies are in search of a powerful amulet that will grant them power to rule the world. The heroes – the Monster Squad – are the only ones daring to stand in their way. Mark and Brian Gunn penned the latest screenplay.
