Kentucky Police Taking Real-Life Purge Threats Seriously

The world is a truly screwed up and scary place right now. As if the awfulness of what’s happening in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson, Missouri, wasn’t enough, some Kentucky residents are actually threatening to… well… Purge.
According to the Courier Journal, threats of a violent crime outbreak on Friday evening — based on the movie The Purge — are being taken seriously by local police. Officers in both Louisville and Jeffersonville, Indiana, said they are aware of the “Louisville Purge” threats circulating on Twitter and will have officers ready to respond.
In the Purge movies a mob kills people during a fictitious 12-hour period where all criminal activity becomes legal.
Louisville police spokesman Sgt. Phil Russell said the police “take any threat that would incite violence on our community seriously.”
Now let me stop right here and address this situation right now. These morons who are talking things up ARE NOT DOING SO because of the Purge movies. They are doing so BECAUSE THEY’RE IDIOTS. True, sometimes life does imitate art, but instead of just blaming the art, why not take a look at the other factors? Why are people angry enough to do this? Why would something as heinous as this actually happen? I can assure you it’s not because of a couple of Platinum Dunes movies, although I was ready to riot over the treatment given to both Friday the 17th and A Nightmare on Elm Street by them.

People are so quick to neatly compartmentalize issues in a tiny box without addressing the real problems. Boxes are easy to put away after all. If the “Louisville Purge” does happen… which I highly doubt… it’s because the people in that area have serious issues that lay far beyond Hollywood. To those people I say, “Hey, assholes! Solve your problems with your brains, and stop giving the morons you’re rebelling against more ammo to use in the great easy-out blame game. You’re accomplishing nothing. Leave the real purging to the supermodels, you dicks.”
