Sarah Wayne Callies Will Pay the GhostAfter years of slaying zombies and then sucking on twisters, Sarah Wayne Callies has a new beast to tame! She’s set to Pay the Ghost with Nicolas Cage. We pray for both her sanity and safety.

Deadline reports that Cage will star as a professor whose young son goes missing during a Halloween parade in New York City. One year later he begins to sense his son’s presence and uncovers clues leading to a vicious and vengeful ghost that surfaces each Halloween to abduct children.

Callies will play Kristen, Cage’s estranged wife and a whip smart environmental attorney who teams up with her husband to recover their son before he’s lost to the spirit world forever.

Dan Kay (Timber Falls) is handling script duties as he adapts Tim Lebbon’s short story of the same name. Kay developed the script with Midnight Kitchen Productions’ Ian Levy, which was then acquired by Voltage Films.

The most surprising thing about this story is that Uli Edel is still directing. I haven’t seen his name attached to anything since the early 90s, when the director helmed the Madonna thriller Body of Evidence and a Season Two episode of “Twin Peaks.” Turns out he’s been plenty busy in the interim.

More soon.

Puppet Master: Littlest Reich

The upcoming reboot of Full Moon’s classic Puppet Master just premiered at the Overlook Film Festival and is said to “maintain all of the brutally inventive puppet-kills infused with the comedic tendencies that made the original franchise so popular with fans while expanding upon Toulon’s backstory and developing richer dialogue, characters, and narratives.”

I’m looking forward to the film and if you’re like me then you’ll be excited to hear Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich looks like it will be heading it’s tiny way into theaters this summer via RLJE Films! More specifically the film will be hitting in August of this year.

“We are incredibly excited to be able to bring the first film under the new Fangoria brand to audiences this summer,” RLJE Films’ Chief Acquisitions Officer Mark Ward said in a statement. “With an amazing script from S. Craig Zahler and performances from horror legends Barbara Crampton and Udo Kier, we know Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich will thrill fans of the original films and new audiences alike.

The reimagining is directed by Sonny Laguna and Tommy Wiklund from a script written by S. Craig Zahler and stars Thomas Lennon, Jenny Pellicer, Nelson Franklin, Charlyne Yi, Michael Pare, Udo Kier, and Barbara Crampton. The film is produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian.

RLJE Films plans to release the movie in theaters in August 2018.

Synopsis:

In Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich, recently divorced and reeling, Edgar (Lennon) returns to his childhood home to regroup his life. When Edgar finds a nefarious looking puppet in his deceased brother’s room, he decides to sell the doll for some quick cash at a small-town convention celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the infamous Toulon Murders. Girl-next-door Ashley (Pellicer) and his comic book shop boss, Markowitz (Franklin), join Edgar for the doomed road trip. All hell breaks loose when a strange force animates the puppets at the convention, setting them on a bloody killing spree that’s motivated by an evil as old as time.

Netflix’s STRANGER THINGS 3 Begins Filming!

Published

on

Nice! Looks like the third season of Netflix’s original series Stranger Things begins filming today.

The news dropped over on Collider with producer Shawn Levy telling the site the team just completed the table read which included the season’s first 4 scripts.

It is the same number of scripts as last year,” Levy says. “The rest of them kind of get written as we shoot, as we edit, as we go. I’m once again directing the third and fourth episodes so that I can give the Duffers a breather, and send them back into the writing cave so that they can buff out the rest of the season.”

He continues: “That’s why I took on these episodes in Season One, and now the three of us are just a little too superstitious to mess with what’s worked so far. The prep beyond that, it’s really a similar juggling act where the Duffers, because they always understandably want to direct the kick-off episodes, they have to juggle their limited time between writing and re-writing and prepping as directors, all at the same time.”

How excited are you to know that filming on Stranger Things 3 is underway? Make sure to let us know in the comments below or on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram!

We’ll let you know when we hear more!

Exclusive: THE GREAT BUDDHA ARRIVAL Adds Kaiju Acting Legend

Published

on

Just over a month ago, we brought you news of the majestic looking The Great Buddha Arrival (Daibutsu Kaikoju), an upcoming Japanese kaiju film that pays homage to the “daimajin” movies of the 60’s. A remake of the 1934 movie of the same name, this iteration will be directed by Hiroto Yokokawa and will star Yoshihiko Ohtsuki, Junichiro Nirasawa and Kazuma Yoneyama.

Today, we can confirm that legendary kaiju actor Akira Takarada has joined the cast! Takarada has appeared in six of the Gojira films, including the original 1954 entry! Fun fact: he played a different character in each of those movies because continuity is for the birds.

The film is raised funds on Kickstarter and plans to release the film in December after it films in August. Sound like a tight production? It most certainly is!

Check out a teaser below and get ready for some Great Buddha city stomping this winter!
