Exclusive: Writer/Actress Jamie Bernadette Talks The 6th Friend
WARNING: When combined, women, narcotics, epic partying and an uninvited sixth friend may result in serious bodily harm, dismemberation and/or death. Proceed cautiously.
Written by star Jamie Bernadette (pictured; Axeman at Cutter’s Creek), the independent feature flick and party parable The 6th Friend begins casting next month, according to Bernadette, who will also produce alongside co-star Chantelle Albers. Letia Clouston will direct, with a release slated for 2014.
“I wanted to write a story with an all-female principal cast, who were intelligent and strong and who possess a determination to not allow themselves to be oppressed,” Bernadette told us of her inspiration for the script for The 6th Friend. “I intended to create intricate relationships,” she continued, “between complex characters in the midst of a story of real terror and bloodshed.”
As for the writing process, “It was a blast,” she told us. “I love getting lost in the story and in the characters’ lives. It's an escape for me. I've been writing since I was six years old, so it was nice to return to that old love of mine.”
Six best friends engage in excessive partying and drug use on the night of their college graduation. An uninvited guest commits a horrifying crime on one of the girls, and the girls seek vicious revenge on the perpetrator, which, years later, leads to disastrous results.
