The Wretched Trailer Bows Online, Director Richard Greenwood SpeaksIn our continued support of independent horror cinema, here’s a peek at Hinnon Valley filmmaker Richard Greenwood, Jr.’s latest via a trailer for his period piece/zombie short film The Wretched.

Set in 395 AD Germania, the film follows the plights of Centurion Markus Valerious (actor Nicolas Charles) and his men, who, in an effort to crush the Germanic tribes that threaten their Roman supply chain, find themselves confronting an evil far more insidious.

Written by executive producer Collin Watts and produced by him and Greenwood, the director completed principal photography on The Wretched earlier this year in and around Los Angeles, California.

Ashlynn Yennie (The Human Centipede), Joey Kern (Cabin Fever), Bob Mclean, Don Stephens, Jr., Brett Wyman and Maitza Brikisak also star, with Jacky Ferdowsi and Michele Monaco having provided makeup FX.

“Collin contacted me, and once I read the script, I could immediately see myself making this film,” Greenwood told us of the inception of The Wretched. “I loved the idea of bringing a zombie film tastefully and intelligently into a previously untouched period in history.”

With self-financing by Watts, the pair then jumped head-first into pre-production.

“We are looking to ride the wave of Hinnon Valley’s festival success to get the ball rolling with The Wretched,” Greenwood told us of his plans for the latter, completed short film. “Due to the uniqueness and concept of this story, I believe that it has more than the potential to exceed any of our previous successes and to become a huge hit.”

Planning to release online a full teaser for The Wretched this June, the filmmaker furthered, “Once audiences get a taste of the bloodshed in it, we know they’re going to be hungry for more, and Collin’s (feature) script has generated a lot of interest from big name talent (who are) excited about working on such an original project.”

”Our goal with the teaser has always been to get the project out there for audiences to get excited about and to use the buzz to attract potential financiers for the eventual feature,” offered Watts of his vision. “We had such an amazing cast and crew, and we’re only now beginning to scratch the surface of what this can become.”

Looking to premiere the short film in its entirety at a major L.A. horror film festival this year, Greenwood is also attached to direct his feature script Lost the Night for Therapy Studios in the coming months.
