Remaking the Lucky Number

Scene from the original 13 TzametiThe turnaround time for remakes is getting so ridiculous these days, I’m surprised they haven’t just thrown caution to the wind and greenlit the same pic to be made at the same time by two different crews, ala the original Dracula.

The latest victim is thankfully a film not many have seen, though those who have have raved about; Gela Babluani’s 13 Tzameti, which was recently released in a small run by the folks at Palm Pictures. The catch is that, just like the Funny Games remake we told you about yesterday, Baluani is remaking the film himself for an English-speaking audience according to Variety.

Not for nothing, but personally I’d much rather see a film as it was originally made, foreign language and all, rather than wait for a remake to come along just so I didn’t have to read it. Annoying. Babluani’s been scouting locations in Baltimore and Chicago (I’m guessing he’ll go with the former as it’s cheaper), while re-working the script with Gregory Prusse.

13, as the film’s title has been shortened to, will take place in America (the original was iffy about it’s time and/or place), telling the story of a group of high-risk gamblers who bet on the ultimate risk; human life. Shooting is set to start up next Spring.
