Now, I know it’s very rare for someone to get their horror news while on the move, but I need to be sure this time. Are you sitting down? Cause this is some big news, indeed… Ready?
Tim Burton has cast Helena Bonham Carter in Sweeney Todd!
All right, so it’s not that big of news, since Carter is another of Burton’s favorite thesps, but purists of the musical original upon which Burton is basing his latest film may take some issue with the casting. Carter, Variety reports, will take on the role of meat-pie maker Mrs. Lovett in the film, a role traditionally meant for a woman a good decade or so older than Sweeney Todd. Carter and Depp are roughly the same age. Of course there’s always the chance of aging makeup, something Carter’s had no issue with in the past. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
Still no confirmation on the rumor that hit while I was away regarding Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen taking on the role of Todd’s nemesis, Signor Adolfo Pirelli, but with shooting getting closer and closer I’m sure we’ll hear yes or no very soon. Keep it here to find out!
