Rest in Peace Film Critic Roger EbertThough not associated with the horror genre directly, film critic Roger Ebert has been an integral part of the film community and our lives for several decades now. It’s with a heavy heart that we report he’s no longer with us.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, for which Ebert served as a critic since 1967, Ebert died early Thursday afternoon at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. He had announced on his blog Wednesday that he was undergoing radiation treatment after a recurrence of cancer. He was 70 years old and taken from us altogether too soon. However, his legacy in the film community and the unwavering influence that he had will live on for decades to come.

We here at Dread Central would like to take this moment to wish Ebert’s family, friends, and constituents our sincerest of condolences. There’s no doubt in our mind’s that he has just claimed his eternal seat in the grandest theatre of them all, and we will always give him two thumbs up.

Rest in peace, amigo, and thank you for all that you effortlessly added to our industry.
