3 Million Viewers Check into the Bates MotelJust think; if the “Bates Motel” were a real functioning business and Norman and his mom weren’t fictitious characters and if the enormous amount of eyes that were glued to A&E’s TV series of the same name could be translated into actual guests, the duo would be rich and opening Bates Motels everywhere!

In a perfect world, I tell you!

In any event last night the A&E series “Bates Motel,” which is based upon the early exploits of one Norman Bates and his mother, Norma, scored HUGE, drawing 3 million viewers in its 10 p.m. timeslot and becoming the network’s most-watched original drama debut to date in key demos. Including its encore broadcast later Monday night, “Bates” drew 4.6 million viewers for the night, including 2.4 million adults 18-49.

A&E’s “Bates Motel,” from executive producers Carlton Cuse (“Lost”) and Kerry Ehrin (“Friday Night Lights”), is a contemporary prequel to the genre-defining film Psycho and promises to give viewers an intimate portrayal of how Norman Bates’ psyche unravels through his teenage years. Fans will have access to the dark, twisted backstory of Norman Bates and how deeply intricate his relationship with his mother, Norma, truly is.

The series stars Academy Award nominee Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air, The Departed), Freddie Highmore (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Finding Neverland), Max Thieriot (Disconnect), Olivia Cooke (Blackout), and Nicola Peltz (The Last Airbender). Season One also co-stars Nestor Carbonell (“Lost,” The Dark Knight Rises) and Mike Vogel (“Pan Am”). “Bates Motel” is produced by Universal Television for A&E Network. Cuse and Ehrin serve as executive producers for Carlton Cuse Productions.

“Bates Motel” Episode 1.02 – “Nice Town You Picked, Norma” (3/25/13 air date):
Dylan (Thieriot) immediately begins causing trouble; the Bates (Farmiga, Highmore) are drawn into the secrets surrounding White Pine Bay.
