Sam Raimi Muses on the Evil Dead Phenomenon

Sam Raimi Muses on the Evil Dead PhenomenonNow that we're a few days removed from Sam Raimi giving in to pressure and saying that he'll be writing a fourth Evil Dead film over the summer with his brother, Ivan, Raimi has shared his view on the franchise's undying popularity.

Vulture recently caught up with Raimi and asked if it "was flattering to realize that this small film [he] made in 1981 still commands such a loyal following." Raimi's answer? "I don't look at it that way. Rather, I look at it as, 'What a sorry state the world is in that it has come to this!' [Laughs.] The lowest-budget, B-movie, drive-in picture is elevated to this status? That's really how I look at it!"

While that's an amusing view, it's also kind of troublesome. Please, Sam, if you don't have the passion for it, don't make an Evil Dead 4 right now. No one wants to see a movie that you're making out of obligation and pressure instead of love. We went down that road with Spider-Man 3, and we need not travel it again.

Yeah... As much love as I have for the guys, I've never felt Sam and Bruce fully grasp what made these movies so special. It's not just some low-budget drive-in nonsense. It's far more than that.
