Kevin Williamson Talks About the Original Plot for Scream 3
There was a lot wrong with Scream 3. For a while now some fans have been wondering what the film would have been like if writer Kevin Williamson had been able to spend some quality time with it. Wonder no more.
Entertainment Tonight caught up with Williamson while doing press for "The Following," and the writer shed some light on what his take on the stab-happy sequel would have been like.
"In my original story for Scream 3, the killers were basically a fanclub of Woodsboro kids that had formed because of Stab 1 and Stab 2,” he tells the site. “They were all doing the killings, and the big surprise of the movie was when Sidney walked into the house after Ghostface had killed everyone… and they all rose up. None of them were actually dead, and they’d planned the whole thing. The motive was their quest for fame so I just placed that into one character with ‘Scream 4′. They were trying to top [Sidney's] Woodsboro story so they could be the legacy of their hometown. All those ideas metamorphosed into 'The Following'.”
There you have it, kids - the April Fool's Day flick that never was. That's a shame, too, because regardless of how reminiscent it may sound, it's still light years better than what we got out of screenwriter Ehren Kruger.
