Exclusive Video Interview: Co-Writer/Director Andres Muschietti and Co-Writer Barbara Muschietti Talk Mama
On January 18th Andrés Muschietti is releasing his haunting modern fairytale Mama, based on the creepy 2008 short film of the same name, and during the recent press day for the supernatural thriller, we had a chance to speak with him and his co-writer (and sister) Barbara Muschietti.
Directed by Andrés Muschietti, produced by Guillermo del Toro and soon to be released by Universal Pictures, Mama follows two young feral orphan girls who disappeared into the woods the day that their parents were killed and are presumed dead by everyone but their ever hopeful uncle, who refuses to give up his endless search.
Five years later, they are discovered living alone in a remote cabin; after they're rescued, the youngsters set out to begin a new life with their uncle and his girlfriend, but unfortunately a supernatural force by the name of "Mama" has also followed them out of the woods, and she's not very keen on giving up her parental rights, which of course leads to complications of a very deadly variety.
The film stars Jessica Chastain, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Megan Charpentier and Isabelle Nelisse.
In our exclusive video we talk with the siblings about what inspired the story of Mama, their thoughts on collaborating with both del Toro as well as their pint-sized co-stars Charpentier and Nelisse, and much more. Check it out below, and look for Mama in theaters everywhere Friday, January 18th!
