Diary of the DeadWho doesn’t love the Weinsteins? Wait … don’t answer that. Sure they may have made a few missteps in the past. OK, lots of missteps in the past, but in any event some news broke today that proves at the very least they’re on the right track!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Weinstein Co. is launching a new distribution banner named Third Rail Releasing, and guess what the first film out of the gate for them is going to be? George A. Romero’s Diary of the Dead (review here)!

OK, I dig. Third Rail Releasing has been put together to “[showcase] inventive and edgy vanguard films” from indie or maverick filmmakers. The plan is to release around six to ten films per year under this new banner and it looks as if they’re off to one hell of a start!

Diary opens in limited release February 15th.
