Nail Gun Massacre, Just Before Dawn, and The Electric Chair Coming to Blu-ray Next Year; Plus More Code Red 2013 Releases
With other companies making waves releasing cult horror films on Blu-ray, it's no surprise Code Red DVD is getting in on the trend by bringing Nail Gun Massacre, Just Before Dawn, and The Electric Chair to hi-def.
Code Red announced on its blog that the company's first foray into Blu-ray will be the 1974 obscurity The Electric Chair. I’m not even familiar with this one. Are you? If so, you might be excited to hear a 97-minute cut of the film will be coming to a loaded Blu-ray to be hosted by former WWE diva Maria Kanellis and TV’s “Monster Man” Cleve Hall.
Following that will be the notorious 1985 splatterfest Nail Gun Massacre, about members of a construction crew that gang-rape a young woman and then begin getting brutally killed off by a mysterious maniac wielding a nail gun. Code Red promises another loaded disc boasting both a brand new HD 1.87 transfer as well as a HD full-frame “boom mic cut”, which I assume means will preserve in all their glory many of this cheapie’s technical flaws.
The third announced Blu-ray is Just Before Dawn, one of the first of the many slasher flicks born in the aftermath of Friday the 13th’s success. While the premise of campers going into the woods and getting slaughtered by a machete-wielding madman, this one boasts a big plot twist, as well as a cast featuring such familiar faces as George Kennedy, Chris Lemmon, Jamie Rose, and Gregg Henry. Code Red promises that no expense has been spared to produce a nice and clean HD print from the original negative.
Code Red also revealed several other titles they’re prepping for 2013:
The Alfredo Leone library with great titles like the first HD presentation of Lucio Fulci's VOICES FROM BEYOND. Also DVD releases of LOVE BY APPOINTMENT (aka HOLIDAY HOOKERS), Mark Lester's GOLD OF THE AMAZON WOMEN, Anthony M. Dawson's VENGEANCE, and JOHN TRAVOLTO: FACE WITH TWO LEFT FEET.
Films Around the World presents VAMPIRE’S NIGHT ORGY and many more classics from the 70’s.
Gary Graver's TRICK OR TREATS with David Carradine and Steve Railsback with extras done by Sean Graver, restored in HD.
CURSE OF THE BLUE LIGHTS, an ambitious horror/fantasy film made by fantastic filmmaker Joe Johnson.
Disc details and release dates to be announced.
