Stan Winston's Famous Monsters Day Seven: Our Exclusive Series Ends with Pumpkinhead!
Pumpkinhead has a special but kind of weird place in my heart since it is also a nickname my grandpa called me throughout my childhood. When I discovered the movie on VHS at my local video store featuring a ghastly larger-than-life creature, I was fascinated and freaked out all at once.
As it turned out, that Pumpkinhead, directed by Stan Winston, was a rather sublimely creepy supernatural cautionary tale that demonstrated, regardless of your sin, there are always consequences to any action.
The movie stars genre icon Lance Henriksen as a grieving father named Harley who summons the mythological beast known as Pumpkinhead to hunt down a group of teenagers who accidentally kill his young son.
Since its release in 1988, Winston's Pumpkinhead has become a cult classic to horror fans everywhere, which is why we thought the modern fairytale would be the perfect flick to celebrate the end of Halloween with as part of our exclusive Famous Monsters series.
Check out Dread Central's gallery of behind-the-scene stills for Pumpkinhead below. We'd like to send out a very special thanks to the Stan Winston School of Character Arts for sharing with us so many wonderful galleries of Winston's iconic and influential work from his illustrious career.
