Last House Redux Finds its Krug

Garret Dillahunt to play Krug in Last House on the Left remakeSome pretty important casting has gone down for the Wes Craven-produced remake of his own Last House on the Left, in the form of busy character actor Garret Dillahunt according to Variety.

Dillahunt will be taking on the role of Krug, a character made famous (or infamous, depending on your viewpoint) by David Hess in the original. Just how far will Dillahunt go with the role? Well, if you’ve seen No Country for Old Man or The Assassination of Jesse James…, you should have a good idea of the ma’s abilities.

Rhys Coiro, Martha MacIsaac and Riki Lindhome will star alongside Dillahunt in the Last House on the Left redux, which is being helmed by Dennis Iliadis. The story revolves around a couple, on vacation in their summer home, who inadvertently give shelter to a group of thugs who nearly killer their daughter.

Whoa, nearly? Already there’s a pretty damn important deviation from the original so one has to wonder what else will be missing. Keep it here for more as we learn it!

Last House was a product of its time. There’s no reason to do a remake (especially when someone just did a scene-for-scene ripoff).

Dillahunt’s a marvelous actor, as evidenced by the TWO roles he played on HBO’s DEADWOOD. If anyone besides Hess could play Krug, it’s this guy. Way to go, casting directors.

However, that “nearly killed” part certainly rubs me the wrong way. Watering this story down takes away the primary reason to tell the story in the first place.

I’m not for this remake, even if the original sucks the big one. I think it’s going to suck almost as bad or worse, honestly.
