Wolfman Director Found!

Joe Johnston chosen for Wolfman redux! As much as I would’ve enjoyed knowing some other fave director of mine was getting the gig, it’s kinda cool that the “underdog”, as it were, seems to have got the gig directing The Wolfman according to AICN.

Their inside sources at Universal just called them with the news that Uni has settled on Joe (Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, Jumanji, Jurassic Park III) Johnston to direct the big-budget remake. As you can see by the resume, Johnston isn’t exactly a schlub in this business but as genre fans go, I bet he was the lowest on most lists.

Funny, too, since we just devoted so much time to the remake in the latest Dinner for Fiends (look for it soon) discussing who should get it and who shouldn’t; I don’t believe Johnston’s name is brought up once. Weird.

Not that the director really matters at this point; the script can’t be touched unless the strike is ended soon and the film’s been being visualized for over a year now by Mark Romanek, so Johnston’s walking into a project with little to no creative license. Here’s hoping he makes the most of it!
