How do you get a deeper red when printing posters? The marketing guru Tim Palen of Lionsgate knows it just takes a little bit of blood … the blood of Jigsaw (Tobin Bell).
Variety has spilled the beans as Palen recounts how it all came to be, “We decided to do a poster and he’s wearing a red cloak. I was talking to the printer and asked what we could do to get the deepest blood red. I asked if it would be possible to use actual blood. There was silence. He said, ‘We could try, but are you serious?’ I said I was dead serious.”
While only the first print of the poster will contain ink mixed with Tobin’s blood, the rest of the 999 posters printed were colored with the help of a blood drive. So, there’s a little bit of someone in each print that will resell for $20 a piece. The first print out the door, however, will be sold at an auction with all proceeds going to the Red Cross.
Lionsgate is pulling out all the stops now. Saw III better live up to the hype on October 27th!
