Snow White and the Huntsman Director Circling New Van Helsing

New Van Helsing Movie Taking Different ApproachThe last time Universal took a crack at making a Van Helsing flick, things went sour, then silly, then abysmal. Given that they've seen the error of their ways, they've actively been searching for a new director to point them in the right direction. That being said...

Twitch is reporting that Snow White and the Huntsman director, the ever so controversial Rupert Sanders, and Universal have engaged in some early and still relatively casual conversations about Universal's upcoming Van Helsing with the sides expressing a mutual interest in doing the project with one another.

Tom Cruise is attached to both produce and star as the titular vampire hunter in the Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman penned story. Cruise is currently filming All You Need Is Kill with Van Helsing a strong possibility to be his next project after that, meaning Universal needs to lock down a director fairly quickly, and this would certainly seem to play to Sanders' skill set while also allowing a bit of breathing space for the director.

More as it comes.

Does this mean Tom Cruise will eventually have to deny having an affair with Rupert Sanders?

This is cool. I love a perfect storm of crappy director/star and writer. It means their energies will be directed into this crapfest and they won't be busy polluting other films with more potential.

Imagine what might have happened if Will Smith hadn't been attached to 'I am Legend'.

The visuals were great. The pacing and acting, not so much. Isn't some of that on the director?

It'll never happen, but I'd love to see Takashi Miike adapt Van Helsing into a samurai vampire movie.
