Sundance Shocked by Downloading Nancy

Downloading Nancy shocks Sundance“Completely unwatchable”

“It was like the film was raping my face”

“highbrow-pervo conversation piece”

These are only some of the things people are saying about Downloading Nancy, the oddly-titled first film from Swedish music video/commercial big deal Johan Renck. Maria Bello, Jason Patric and Rufus Sewell star.

Impressive cast and some very intriguing reviews … Downloading Nancy premiered to gasps and walk-outs at this year’s Sundance, and seems like it might be the new film everyone comes out of Utah talking about for 2008. But what the hell is about?

Nancy (Bello) is an incest survivor whose marriage and self-esteem are in shambles. Her life seems devoid of meaning, so she finds someone online (Patric) who will hurt and, eventually, kill her. Freaky shit ensues.

Check out the trailer below, then head to the official Downloading Nancy site if it makes ya curious.

  1. I’m surprised this site hasn’t mentioned Death in Love yet. It’s a film by Boaz Yakin. It’s a torture porn film disguised as a character study of a holocaust survivor.

  2. Here I thought I was the only person who has seen Dans ma Peau! My wife really likes the movie also. Can’t wait for this one, we’ll be there.

  3. Jason Patric returns to his dark side ala Your Friends and Neighbors, where he was friggin brilliant and fucking scary.

I love films like this that leave middle america scratching their heads and is later to be embraced by horror or cult movie fans. Reminds me of Dans ma Peau, which is just brutal to sit through.
