Exclusive Release Info and Clip for New Doc - Slice and Dice: The Slasher Film Forever

Most affectionately known for their work on supplemental materials for the UK’s Arrow Video home entertainment label, the folks behind High Rising Productions are ready to unleash their own feature-length documentary entitled Slice and Dice: The Slasher Film Forever.

Read on for the skinny on the doc’s upcoming release plus an exclusive clip to whet your appetite.

Synopsis
Ever since Alfred Hitchcock created Psycho in 1960 the story of a weapon-wielding madman - stalking and slaughtering helpless victims - has become a fixture of fear flicks and bludgeoned bombastic box office takings worldwide. Slice and Dice: The Slasher Film Forever takes an often irreverent look at this much-maligned, and frequently misunderstood, genre with commentary from some of the form's most celebrated filmmakers including Mick Garris (Masters of Horror), Adam Green (Hatchet), Tom Holland (Child's Play), Tobe Hooper (The Texas Chain Saw Massacre), Patrick Lussier (My Bloody Valentine 3D) and Scott Spiegel (Intruder). Also making on-camera appearances are actors Emily Booth (Cradle of Fear), Corey Feldman (Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter), Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp) and Robert Rusler (A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge) -as well as Jeffrey Reddick, the creator of the phenomenally successful Final Destination franchise. With a total of 26 interviewees, Slice and Dice: The Slasher Film Forever is rarely short for words and provides both seasoned scholars of the splatter genre and newcomers to the gore-game with plenty of frightful fresh facts.

Cutting an immediate presence on the screen - Slice and Dice: The Slasher Film Forever delves into the history of hack 'em up cinema, investigates the rules of this teen-trepanning terror trend and even gives some pointers into how to survive a stint in the genre. Frequently funny, delightfully disgusting and always engaging, Slice and Dice: The Slasher Film Forever is ideal viewing for anyone who has found themselves gnawing on their fingernails during a chance viewing of Black Christmas, A Nightmare on Elm Street or Saw, Slice and Dice: The Slasher Film Forever is an unashamed salutation to the arterial-spraying excellence of Norman Bates, Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger and their many plasma-packed protégés.

Featuring original music by composer Mars Homeworld and Scottish punk band The Acid Fascists, Slice and Dice: The Slasher Film Forever is the brain child of director and prolific genre author Calum Waddell and his partner in crime, designer Naomi Holwill. Under the banner of High Rising Productions, the pair strive to reinvigorate the presentation of cult cinema through expertise and sheer love for the craft, whatever the budget.
So, the question is: When will you get to see it? Slice and Dice: The Slasher Film Forever will be making its premiere appearance at 1am on October 7th at this year’s prestigious Sitges Film Festival, the details of which you can find here.

For home viewing you’ll have to wait until early next year as the UK DVD release, coming courtesy of 88 Films, will be arriving on 11th March 2013. The guys at 88 Films had this to say:

88 Films are ecstatic about the opportunity to release in the UK what we feel is the definitive documentary about the slasher film phenomenon.”

So sharpen those knives and get ready to Slice and Dice with our little preview, just for you.

Hire an amazing artist to rework that poster, and then rename the documentary and they might have something. I'll still check it out if i cross paths with it since I can watch slasher films until the cows come home.
