Nate Parker Prescribed a Role in Oldboy
And the casting news continues for Spike Lee's take on Chan-wook Park's cult favorite Oldboy. Who's next to land a gig in this tale of vengeance, hammers, and eating live squids (that scene still has us a bit queasy)? Read on for details.
According to Variety, Arbitrage star Nate Parker (pictured) has entered negotiations to reteam with his Red Hook Summer helmer Spike Lee for Good Universe's Oldboy. A remake of Chan-wook Park's Korean revenge thriller, the film stars Josh Brolin as a man who is kidnapped and imprisoned for more than a decade for unknown reasons. Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene) and Sharlto Copley (District 9) co-star. Parker is in talks to play a doctor who works with Olsen.
Samuel L. Jackson is expected to take on a small but key role as the head of the motel where Brolin's character has been held hostage, who is subsequently tortured for information. Copley will play the villain Adrian Pryce in Oldboy. Pryce is a mysterious billionaire trying to destroy the life of Joe Douchett (Brolin).
The new Oldboy begins shooting in late September from a script adapted by Mark Protosevich, who will co-produce. Roy Lee and Doug Davison produce via Vertigo Entertainment with Lee’s 40 Acres & A Mule. Mandate president Nathan Kahane executive produces.
