Massacring the South Texas Blues

We’ve all seen making of documentaries on our favorite DVDs, some you could say good enough to be their own features; Full Tilt Boogie comes to mind as one example. However, this is the first I’ve heard of a making-of actually being a feature, and it sounds like it’ll be a good one.
The project is called South Texas Blues, the brainchild of Horror Business (review) helmer Christopher P. Garetano. The idea is to re-create the insanity that surrounding the creation of Tobe Hooper’s 1973 masterpiece The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, using the recollections of the film’s survivors as a basis for a full-length recreation.
Let’s allow Garetano to give an example; ”The original dinner scene was such a long 36 hour shooting nightmare that when you watch the scene, you can feel the intensity of the moment.” he explained, ”I’m going to show you what happened on that set, the real moments that created the incredible intensity for Tobe Hooper’s camera. There was rotting meat on the table, a funeral pyre of burning animals outside that filled the house with putrid smoke and smells. People were exhausted, throwing up, there was screaming and absolute madness amongst the cast and crew. This will all be meticulously re-expressed in my film.”
A short film called “On the Road to South Texas”, which was used as a pitch for the feature, made it’s way onto YouTube recently so we thought we’d throw it at ya and let you come to your own conclusions about the validity of the project; personally I love the idea and can’t wait to see where he goes with it.
