Stephen King’s ‘The Boogeyman’ Gets Terrifying First Trailer [Watch]

Stephen King’s The Boogeyman is finally receiving a feature film adaptation, and it looks down right frightening. The movie hails from Host and Dashcam director Rob Savage and will now hit theaters via 20th Century Studios on June 2nd. Check out the trailer below.
The script for The Boogeyman is penned by Black Swan writer Mark Heyman. Scott Beck & Bryan Woods (A Quiet Place) and Akela Cooper (Malignant, M3gan) have also handed in drafts for the forthcoming adaptation.
While the film was first reportedly going directly to Hulu, since then test screenings have led to parent company Disney releasing the film theatrically. This is a similar set up to what happened with Smile over at Paramount.
The Boogeyman stars Sophie Thatcher (Yellowjackets) and Chris Messina (Birds of Prey). In the film, high school student Sadie Harper and her younger sister Sawyer are reeling from the recent death of their mother and aren’t getting much support from their father, Will, a therapist who is dealing with his own pain. When a desperate patient unexpectedly shows up at their home seeking help, he leaves behind a terrifying supernatural entity that preys on families and feeds on the suffering of its victims.
“The Boogeyman” was first published in Stephen King’s 1978 horror anthology The Night Shift, and is considered one of Stephen King’s scariest short stories. “The Boogeyman” may have ruined countless childhoods, but until now it has never seen a proper film adaptation.
The Boogeyman will be produced by 21 Laps’ Shawn Levy, Dan Levine & Dan Cohen.
