B-Sides: From Broadway to Critters
He originated the roles of “Rum Tum Tugger” in Cats and “Beast” in Disney’s Beauty & the Beast on Broadway, twice nominated for a Tony Award, but today Terrence Mann is getting his B-Sides due for his musical performance as hair metal rocker/alien bounty hunter Johnny Steele in Critters.
Technically speaking, Terrence Mann played both the popular 80’s rocker Johnny Steele seen on TV in a music video performing his signature song “Power of the Night” and the alien bounty hunter that morphs its shapeless head into the mold of Johnny Steele upon landing in farm country with its partner to hunt down voracious toothy furballs from outer space.
Hey, here’s an idea. They can adapt Critters into a Cats-style Broadway musical and Terrence Mann can take on the role of “Rum Crum Critter”. Couldn’t possibly be any tackier than Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.
From the 1986 cult classic that launched an unlikely franchise, here is Tony Award nominee Terrence Mann as 80’s rock sensation “Johnny Steele” performing his biggest hit “Power of the Night".
