Casting, Story for Fittest

Despite the presence of some fresh blood for the series, it’s not looking like Alien vs. Predator: Survival of the Fittest is going to be any better than the film it’s sequelizing.

Some solid casting info came through this morning via The Hollywood Reporter, which confirms the news we reported here about John Ortiz (pictured) nabbing the lead and adds Shareeka Epps and Johnny Lewis to the potential xenophobe dinner menu. While said casting in and of itself isn’t an issue, the brief plot synopsis that showed up over at Empire Online is:

The new movie will be set in a picturesque American small town, which suddenly becomes a war zone when a pissed off Predator and a mob of deadly aliens arrives. Epps is playing Kendra, a young girl who has to look out for her younger sibling. Ortiz is the town’s sheriff and Lewis is a troubled kid who will likely find a reason to behave once the extra-terrestrial rabble-rousers show up.

A small American town, eh? If it’s set in the modern day, that causes all sorts of continuity issues with the franchise it’s a spin-off of, and if it’s in the future, well … that’ll just be odd. Of course we can’t be sure this is the actual plot as it’s the first we’ve heard of it so far, but something about it reeks of the truth.
