San Diego Comic-Con 2012: An Exclusive Chat with Walking Dead Showrunner Glen Mazzara

While everyone else was busy pulling him in nineteen different directions, we were able to sit down privately with "The Walking Dead" showrunner Glen Mazzara to talk about the Governor, the prison, and a couple of surprises.

"The prison is so detailed, you guys are going to be shocked at the level of detail," says Mazzara. "Most real prisons are sterile; this is definitely the horror movie version of the already scary setting. Imagine an already violent environment suffering through the zombie apocalypse, and then our guys show up to deal with the worst of both worlds."

"All of our characters from the regulars to the new additions are simply incredible and bring a real sense of realism to this situation. They are the walking dead, not the zombies. The dead are there, sure, but it's the living that are the problem, and that's what we really explore in this next season. David Morrissey is going to blow people away as the Governor. There's a lot to do with a character like that and we do it."

When asked about certain characters from the comics that have yet to show up on the series (yes, we named names, but we cannot say here publicly), let's just say that Mazzara smiled and said, "There's a design in place." Trust me, kids, as a fan of the comic series, you're going to LOVE the design.
