TimTim Burton, while out talking up his latest film Sweeney Todd, revealed to the folks at Sci Fi Wire that he’s looking forward to getting started on a full-length remake of his 1984 short “Frankenweenie”, the story of a boy and his dead dog.

The touching tale told of a young boy who brings his beloved pet back from the dead and the wacky hijinks that ensue. Burton will see the new film made as another 3-D stop motion animation movie, but very low budget according to the wild-haired helmer.

“The thing that excites me about it and that will make it different is that when I look at my original drawings, there are certain things that are in those that I couldn’t get in the live action when I made the film.” Burton told the site, ”So I’m quite excited to try to get a certain emotion and other characters in the new version, and I want to make it a slightly bigger story.”

Production on Frankenweenie will being shortly with a 2009 release planned. Keep it here for more info as we learn it!
