Twilight and The Hunger Games Battle to the Death for Tweener Cinema Supremacy at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards

The Twilight Saga has dominated the MTV Movie Awards for years, but in 2012 a second tweener book-to-movie phenomenon stepped up to finally try to end the sparking vampire reign of tyranny.
Were the odds in The Hunger Games‘ favor?
For going on something like four years now, the MTV Movie Awards’ continuing slide to be even less relevant than the defunct Blockbuster Movie Awards has been speeded along by all things Twilight winning in nearly every category possible.
But that was before The Hunger Games came along.
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 took home the Best Kiss category for the fourth straight year, but categories once ruled by Twilight (Best Female Performer, Best Male Performer, Best Fight) fell into the hands of The Hunger Games this time around. Could it be? Could something other than Twilight finally take home the top prize?
Yeah, right.
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 continued the streak of taking home MTV’s Movie of the Year thanks to the legions of teenage girls who comprise 95% of MTV’s current audience, or so it would seem (MTV now stands for “Mostly Teenage Vixens”, right?) .
Hey, one more movie, and then finally something non-Twilight can win the prize. They’ve gotta retire that sparkling jersey into the rafters eventually.
If the movie wasn’t titled The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1, The Hunger Games, or Bridesmaids, there wasn’t much left to go around.
Hold on.
Breakthrough Performance to Shailene Woodley for The Descendants? Say what? You actually expect me to believe the girls voting for these awards have ever seen The Descendants?
Personally, though, reading the list below of this year’s MTV Movie Award winners, my favorite has to be Best Music to LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” for 21 Jump Street. That wasn’t made for the movie; it’s just a popular song that was played during the film. The MTV Movie Awards found a way to screw up the Best Song category even worse than the Oscars.
