A lot can happen in sixty seconds. When tragedy and horror strike, each moment can tick away like an hour. That’s exactly the case for our poor travelers who end up on the ass-end of the Chernobyl Diaries.

Chernobyl Diaries, an original story by Paranormal Activity mastermind Oren Peli, is set in the city of Prypiat, which once housed the workers of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor. It’s written by Peli, Carey Van Dyke, and Shane Van Dyke and directed by Brad Parker.

Production took place in September and October 2011 in Eastern Europe with Peli and Brian Witten (Dark City) producing. Alcon Entertainment’s Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson are exec producers. It was financed and sold internationally by FilmNation Entertainment, and Warner Bros. will be releasing it later this year on Memorial Day weekend.

Synopsis:
Chernobyl Diaries follows a group of six young tourists who, looking to go off the beaten path, hire an “extreme tour” guide. Ignoring warnings, he takes them into the city of Pripyat, the former home to the workers of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor, but a deserted town since the disaster more than 25 years ago. After a brief exploration of the abandoned city, however, the group soon find themselves stranded, only to discover that they are not alone…
