Guillermo del Toro has his fingers in so many pies as of late, it’s amazing to me that the man even has time to do interviews anymore. It always seems like when he does, though, it’s to discuss new projects that no one’s even heard of yet. As if half a dozen movies in the pipeline as well as a video game or two and numerous producer gigs weren’t enough, now he’s talking about working in TV.
“It would be a really nasty, nasty fantasy. … My deal is with Fox, and we’re in the process of developing the story and seeing if we see eye to eye,” the tireless creator told Sci Fi Wire. The show is called “The Strain”, and aside from saying he’s already written the bible for the show (in other words, all the character backstories and the arc of the narrative), del Toro didn’t want to elaborate too much on it other than to confirm that it was horror.
With a title like “The Strain” and a brilliantly twisted mind like del Toro’s behind it, one can only imagine what the eventual show would be like. Right now it’s all in the very, very early stages of coming to fruition, and assuming it does, it’s then a matter of finding a station with the balls to show it.
