Christopher Rice Reveals the Title and Publisher of His Next Supernatural ThrillerChristopher Rice avoided writing about the supernatural for years, but with 2013’s The Heavens Rise, he dipped his toe into the genre, and come October he’ll be back with another spooky saga, The Vines. Read on for the details!

Rice made the announcement on his live internet radio show, The Dinner Party Show, this past Sunday evening and via Twitter (see below), but now we have the official press release to share. Look for the artwork soon.

Note that in addition to the news about The Vines, Rice revealed that new editions of three of his previously published novels (A Density of Souls, The Snow Garden, Light Before Day) will be re-released with new covers in November 2014.

From the Press Release:
Amazon Publishing and 47North announce the acquisition of The Vines, an original supernatural thriller, and three additional novels from New York Times best-selling and award-winning novelist Christopher Rice.

Set outside New Orleans, The Vines is a dark, elegant, Southern Gothic thriller about a young woman who brings to life a vengeful force from beneath her family’s antebellum plantation home and the lives left shattered in its wake. The Vines will publish in Kindle, print, and audio editions on October 21, 2014, while new editions of three of Rice’s previously published New York Times best-selling novels (A Density of Souls, The Snow Garden, and Light Before Day) will release with new covers in November 2014.

“I was thrilled with the positive response to my first supernatural thriller, The Heavens Rise, last year. Being nominated for a Bram Stoker Award alongside Stephen King is one of the happiest memories of my life, and it left me eager to return to the Deep South with another atmospheric and scary thriller,” said Christopher Rice. “To say I’m just excited about teaming with the incredibly smart and innovative group at 47North would be a massive understatement indeed.”

“The Vines is a terrific novel, a dark, supernatural tale full of arresting action, a deep sense of antebellum history, dramatic twists, and a gorgeous ending,” said Jason Kirk, Senior Editor at 47North. “Christopher Rice is a natural fit for 47North, and we jumped at the chance to team with him. His fans will love his new novel, and we’re excited to help continue to build his audience, particularly in digital.”

Synopsis:
The dark history of Spring House, a beautifully restored plantation mansion on the outskirts of New Orleans, has long been forgotten. But something sinister lurks beneath the soil of the old estate.

After heiress and current owner Caitlin Chaisson is witness to her husband’s stunning betrayal at her birthday party, she tries to take her own life in the mansion’s cherished gazebo. Instead, the blood she spills awakens dark forces in the ground below. Chaos ensues, and by morning her husband has vanished without a trace and his mistress has gone mad.

Nova, daughter to Spring House’s groundskeeper, has always suspected that something malevolent haunts the old place, and in the aftermath of the birthday party, she enlists Caitlin’s estranged best friend, Blake, to help her get to the bottom of it. The pair soon realize that the vengeance enacted by this sinister and otherworldly force comes at a terrible price.
