I remember when Variety had the first solid word about a new Friday the 13th movie being in the works, with New Line proudly announcing that the film would be in theaters on Friday, October 13th. Seeing as how that’s next week and not a frame has been shot, thanks mainly to some very convoluted rights issues going on behind the scenes, it was generally assumed that the new film was dead in the water.
But Michael Bay, owner of Platinum Dunes, is not one to give up easily. Bloody Disgusting got word from a reader who attended this weekend’s Weekend of Horrors that the remake/sequel is still moving forward, and now they’re looking at a July 2007 release, which make sense as July 13th falls on a Friday next year.
The word comes from a good source, namely producer Andrew Form, who also insisted that they would fight tooth and nail to make sure the new movie hits theaters with a hard “R” rating. How hard that battle will be fought will hinge on how well their Texas Chainsaw prequel (review) does when it opens on Friday, I’m sure. More as we learn it!
