Set for release next month, Scott Derrickson’s Deliver Us from Evil tells the story of a New York police officer who investigates a series of crimes involving demonic possession, and the story was inspired by a book written by Ralph Sarchie, based on his real-life experiences with the NYPD.
Well timed with the release of the film comes the 15-minute documentary Sarchie, wherein the former sergeant opens up about the unbelievable cases that Derrickson’s latest is based on. A mix of brand new interviews with real footage from the over 20 exorcisms that Ralph Sarchie took part in throughout his career, the short docu-thriller peels back the curtain and offers a peek at true evil, relaying the real story through the eyes of the man who lived to tell it.

Deliver Us from Evil hits theaters on July 2nd, and stars Eric Bana, Joel McHale, Sean Harris, Edgar Ramirez, and Olivia Munn. The film is a paranormal thriller produced by Jerry Bruckheimer Films. Derrickson directs a script he and Paul Boardman (The Exorcism of Emily Rose) wrote.
New York police officer Ralph Sarchie (Bana), struggling with his own personal issues, begins investigating a series of disturbing and inexplicable crimes. He joins forces with an unconventional priest (Ramirez), schooled in the rituals of exorcism, to combat the frightening and demonic possessions that are terrorizing their city. Based upon the book, which details Sarchie’s bone-chilling real-life cases.
