Meet the Lucky Bastard in Pair of Red Band ClipsThe much talked about NC-17 flick Lucky Bastard is coming home to VOD on May 15th so you know what that means! Yep, grab your tissues, a good tarp, maybe even a Tyvek suit. You just can’t be too careful!

From the Press Release
See what happens when the adult film industry and “found footage” mix in the indie, horror-thriller LUCKY BASTARD when it becomes available On Demand starting May 15th.

When the adult website LUCKY BASTARD runs a contest giving the winner a night with a famous porn star, the outcome turns from fantasy to horror in a deadly nightmare no one could possibly have expected. LUCKY BASTARD stars Don McManus (GRAND PIANO, LOVELACE), Jay Paulson (MAD MEN), and Betsy Rue (MY BLOODY VALENTINE).

LUCKY BASTARD will be available on Cable on Demand, YouTube, Google Play, PlayStation Network, and XBox Live starting May 15th. Eager fans of indie horror and genre films will be happy to find that LUCKY BASTARD is now available for pre-order (both rental and EST) on Amazon Instant Video.

Synopsis
LUCKY BASTARD is the story of a shy young man who wins a contest to have sex with a famous porn star on an adult website. When the young man arrives at the porno house/set location, his every move is captured on the numerous “reality television-style” wallcams that are spread out everywhere in the house. It is the found footage from these cameras that tells the story of the inevitable and horrifying reality of what actually happened.

At the center of the story are: Mike (Don McManus), who owns the “Lucky Bastard” website; his top porn star Ashley Saint (Betsy Rue); and Dave G. (Jay Paulson), the unsuspecting shy young man who wins the contest.

The “Lucky Bastard” employees treat their work matter-of-factly. Mike once clearly had more serious artistic ambitions, but now he runs the company and directs all of the “Lucky Bastard” website’s content. Ashley, the website’s most popular performer, initially refuses to participate because she knows the winner will be humiliated by the experience but ultimately gives in when offered extra money. And the contest winner, Dave, an unassuming and shy young man, finds himself driven by shame and humiliation into committing the most horrifying acts imaginable.

The cast of LUCKY BASTARD includes veteran performers known for their work in movies, TV, and theatre, including Jay Paulson (familiar to audiences as Don Draper’s brother, Adam Whitman, in “Mad Men”), Don McManus (Grand Piano, Lovelace, The Congress), and lead actress Betsy Rue (best known from the horror hit My Bloody Valentine).

LUCKY BASTARD crosses many genres—drama, comedy, suspense thriller, horror—without entirely belonging to any of them and implicitly comments on a society in which pornography is not only a common part of modern life but also a mirror reflecting the nature of intimacy in today’s world. The movie also reshapes in unpredictable ways the recent cinematic convention of “found footage.”

Thelma Is Fantastic and Now You Can Watch the Opening Scene

Published

on

One of this year’s most beautiful and subdued horror films is Joachim Trier’s Thelma (review), which opens in Los Angeles tonight. To give you a bit of what the film is like, The Orchard have released the opening scene, which shows a man and his daughter hunting in the bleak Norwegian winter. When they come across a young deer, the true intentions of this trip become apparent…

Having seen Thelma, I can tell you that it’s truly something special. It’s a slow burn, to be certain, but it plays out gorgeously, resulting in a film that has yet to leave my mind.

Locations and tickets for Thelma can be found here.

Synopsis:
Thelma, a shy young student, has just left her religious family in a small town on the west coast of Norway to study at a university in Oslo. While at the library one day, she experiences a violent, unexpected seizure. Soon after, she finds herself intensely drawn toward Anja, a beautiful young student who reciprocates Thelma’s powerful attraction. As the semester continues, Thelma becomes increasingly overwhelmed by her intense feelings for Anja – feelings she doesn’t dare acknowledge, even to herself – while at the same time experiencing even more extreme seizures. As it becomes clearer that the seizures are a symptom of inexplicable, often dangerous, supernatural abilities, Thelma is confronted with tragic secrets of her past, and the terrifying implications of her powers.
