I must admit that I have a big ole soft spot for movies that take place in abandoned mental asylums, especially when they’re actually shot inside real ones. Such is the case with Eloise, and we’ve got all the spooky details for ya today!
Per Deadline, Eliza Dushku, Chace Crawford, Brandon T. Jackson and PJ Byrne have all been cast in the Robert Legato-directed thriller, which begins shooting on May 5th.
Written by Chris Borrelli (The Vatican Tapes), the film is set in a defunct insane asylum known as “Eloise.” Four friends break into the abandoned institution in hopes of finding a death certificate, which will provide Jacob (Crawford) with the rights to a sizable inheritance. While inside the asylum, the group not only finds that the institution houses a horrifying history but also the truth about their own tragic pasts.
The psychological thriller is being shot in Michigan’s Eloise Insane Asylum, which was one of the largest mental institutions in the world. What began as one building in Westland, MI in 1832, rapidly grew into a 78-building self-sustained city, complete with its own fire and police departments, train station, post office and farms. Eloise closed its doors in 1982, and has since been dormant and left to ruin.
Tripp Vinson and Sanford Nelson are producing and Linden Nelson, Don Foss, Lisa Zambri and Sean Gowrie are exec producing.
WME Global will sell North American rights and Hyde Park International will shop the offshore rights at Cannes next month.
