Ratner Won’t Escape New York

I know news on the remake of Escape From New York doesn’t really fall into the “horror” category, but to those of us who grew up worshiping at the alter of John Carpenter, it’s hard to differentiate between his horror and other works. It’s all gold for us.
AICN got word from a reader this weekend with the very, very, very good news that Brett (Rush Hour, Red Dragon) Ratner won’t be directing the redux, as has been the rumor for months now. Said reader got to talk to him when he accepted a Achievement in Cinema award at the Savannah Film Festival, and he said the remake is happening, just not with him.
Wow, now there’s a relief. Of course, we’re not 100% out of the woods until a new director is named, but how much worse could it be? Oh, I shouldn’t have asked that…
